Occupational Therapy

At Colour My World Therapy Services, our Occupational Therapy (OT) team supports individuals – primarily children and adolescents – who are experiencing challenges in their everyday activities. Our goal is to help clients build the skills they need to participate fully and confidently in home, school and community life.

Whether it’s developing fine motor skills, improving sensory regulation, or increasing independence with daily routines, we provide personalised support that meets each individual where they are. While most of our clients are children, we also offer services for young adults and parents navigating developmental or functional challenges across the lifespan.

Our Services Include:

We work with children who are having challenges with:

  • Fine Motor Skills: Such as handwriting, using cutlery, dressing and other hand-based tasks.
  • Gross Motor Skills and Coordination: Including balance, posture, strength and motor planning.
  • Sensory Processing: Helping children who are over- or under-responsive to sensory input (e.g., noise, touch, movement).
  • Emotional Regulation and Self-Control: Supporting kids who struggle to manage big feelings or remain calm and focused.
  • Self-Care and Daily Living Skills: Encouraging independence in toileting, eating, hygiene, and other everyday routines.
  • Play and Social Participation: Helping children engage meaningfully with peers and develop age-appropriate play skills.

We use fun, play-based and meaningful activities to build confidence and functional skills in a way that feels safe, motivating and respectful of each child’s individual neurotype and developmental stage.

For older children and teens, OT can help with:

  • Executive functioning (planning, organisation, time management)
  • Study routines and school participation
  • Developing independence in self-care and community involvement
  • Managing transitions (e.g., high school to adulthood, changes in routine)
  • NDIS and Functional Capacity Building

We know that children’s progress is most meaningful when the people around them feel informed, empowered and supported. That’s why we work closely with parents, caregivers and families to:

  • Understand your child’s needs: We explain therapy goals and approaches in clear, accessible language.
  • Offer practical tools: We share strategies you can use at home to support skill development and emotional regulation in daily life.
  • Collaborate on routines: From morning routines to mealtimes or transitions, we can help build structure and confidence in a way that works for your family.
  • Support advocacy: We assist families in working with schools, early childhood settings, and other providers to ensure consistent and respectful support across environments.

Whether you’re navigating a new diagnosis, supporting your child through daily challenges, or looking for ways to build resilience at home, we’re here to walk alongside you with compassion and clarity.

Functional Capacity Assessments (FCAs) evaluate how a person manages everyday tasks across key areas of life. These assessments are particularly important for:

  • NDIS applications and reviews
  • School support planning
  • Guiding therapy goals
  • Understanding current levels of independence and support needs

Our FCAs are strengths-based and respectful, aiming to capture not just the challenges, but also the capacities and potential of the person being assessed. We explore domains such as:

  • Daily living skills
  • Mobility and motor coordination
  • Communication
  • Social and community participation
  • Emotional regulation and coping strategies

Following the assessment, we provide a clear, professional report tailored to the intended audience (e.g. NDIS, schools, other professionals). We’re also happy to support families in understanding the results and using them to guide next steps.

We offer services in-person at our Osborne Park location or via Telehealth where appropriate. Our sessions are guided by each individual’s goals and interests, ensuring therapy is not only effective – but also enjoyable and affirming.
